About Abersoch Boatyard Services Ltd

There has been a boatyard of sorts on this site for many many years, and before the leisure boating revolution of the lates 1950's, the yard had accomodated many of the local fishing fleet, as well as the coal boats which plied their trade around the coastline of North Wales.

In the early 1960's the yard was established properly and was geared towards servicing the emerging leisure market. It was an all encompassing yard which could supply you with everything and anything you needed. From copper nails to look after you planking, to a fully fitted out sailing boat ready for adventure, this yard had it all.

As time went by the yard changed hands several times and in July 2004 it was bought by Tim Long. During Tim's ownership the yard has seen a number of developments which have kept the yard running in a competitive marketplace where good honest service counts for a lot.

The protective rock armour aroound the outside of the yard was completed in 2011 and with this it has also made the yard much more secure. There was nearly a whole mountains worth of concrete placed outside the shed, which has allowed us to work in a cleaner and tidier environment, which also keeps our customers boats cleaner.

Tim has also invested heavily in proper plant to make the running of the yard much smoother, and we have a 10 ton tractor mounted hoist which makes recovery of boats up to 30 feet a doddle

Recovering a 33 foot lift keel yacht from the beach.

We now cater mainly for powerboat owners who require seasonal Park & Launch which operates between March and Oactober giving our customers alsmost eight months of on the water time. To facilitate this change to a more power oreinted yard we have had to limit the number and type of yachts we have on winter storage. This gives us more opportunity to devote more time to the preparation of each yacht which ultimately give the owner a better and more pleasurable season.

Meet The Team

Tim Long - Owner, desk driver, phone answerer, jester, bbq master and general "making things run smoothly" operative!! Tim has been in charge at the yard since July 2004. He has an excellent background in boating, having learnt to sail at the age of 9. He became a sailing and windsurfing instructor and went to University in Southampton to study Boat Building and Boatyard Management.

He has many interests including sailing "toy" boats, walking his Jack Russell "Polly" and generally having a giggle. If Tim isn't at the boatyard he can sometimes be found enjoying a pint in one of the villages many hostelries.

Nick Roberts - Nicko started as a shy work experience kid quite a few years back now. He has developed into a conciencious hard working young man who we are proud to have working for us. He is constantly learning from other staff members and is keen to broaden his knowledge of all things boatyard.

In his spare time Nicko enjoys renovating his house and looking after his reptile collection.

David Jones is our newest member of staff, he joined us in May 2014 when Huw left to follow his firefighting career in South Wales.

Dave is a top notch mechanic and all round nice chap, he can talk for Wales and has an infectious chuckle that you can hear from many miles away. Dave has worked in many businesses around the Lleyn and has spent most of his life in the area and if he doesn't know about it it generally isn't worth knowing.

Sometimes known as "Magic Dave" he can diagnose a dropped cylinder or wonky thrumpletrumpet valve at 100 paces and can usually have it fixed in a jiffy.

His hobbies involve dressing up, driving too fast and waiting for official looking brown envelopes in the post.

It is our aim here at Abersoch Boatyard Services Ltd to make your boating as easy as possible for you. We operate a friendly, sometimes amusing, boatyard which has been built on offering a good honest service for a good honest price, without flim flam or sky high prices.

If you would like further information on anything boatyard related please either give us a call on 01758 713900 or email Tim.

So we have just come out of a bonkers busy couple of weeks here at the yard, the weather was pretty good for the late may bank holiday weekend and the following half term week, lots of boating was done and lots of happy customers used the yard. Talking of the yard we've deposited 80ish tons of nice clean gravel in all those areas that needed it and we now have a nice clean and tidy yard.

We've also spent a bit of time helping one of our customers get his boat over to Portugal by putting it in the back of a truck with the help of the guys down at Idealboat in Pwllheli and their monster forklift. The weather wasn't great, in fact it was terrible, but we did it.

Bank Holiday Incoming! Without actually doing a Timcast it looks like the Early birds on Saturday will get some boating in, Sunday looks like a windy pub day and Monday looks reasonable at the moment. It looks mainly dry for the duration which is good news.

Happy New Season! Yet again we've been super busy with everything apart from the website, hopefully we are now able to find a little more time to make regular updates to the site during the coming season which got underway in late March. The Yard is once again full for the 2017 season with a mix of old and new customers. Here's hoping we have a great boating season and who knows there might even be a Timcast or two! Tim is back at the yard full time and you can call him on 01758 713900 or email him.

Contacting us is as easy as mailing Tim or calling the yard on 01758 713900
